Infographic.

In Te Ngahere we were learning about the scientific method. We read a text about the scientific method and how it works. The method is 6 different steps. First you had to ask yourself a question or someone else, it’s good to have the question about a real life problem. After that you research your question and then make a hypothesis (a hypothesis is like a guess) of what you think will be the answer. Then you test the question by conducting an experiment, for example the question was what colour absorbs the most heat, you could get some cardboard boxes and paint them a different colour and put them in the same place under the sun and see what box is the hottest. After that you go over your research and then present.  After we read this text we made an infographic.

What I enjoyed was learning about the science method and creating the infographic. I can’t wait to do more of this science. Here is my infographic.

Toku Whanau

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about our family in maori. Family, in maori is whanau. We have created DLO’s to show our learning. We had to say the whole thing in maori which is not easy for some people but we managed. Then we had to screencastify it, (screencastify is like a feature  on our chromebook that records your screen and what we are saying). I learnt about family members that I did not know about  before. We had to learn sentences about our family in te reo for our D.L.O. What I could do better next time is find some better images that relate to my family.

Coding

In Te Ngahere we have been doing coding, Mr Lindsey was talking to us about different shapes and we had to make them on code.org. We were learning about geometry. I made a Hexagonal cube, it was not that hard. Mr Lindsey showed us a really easy way to make it. What I really enjoyed was finding out what angle to turn to create the Hexagonal cube. The angle I used was 60 and 100. What I could do better next time is see if I could find a different angle and see if that would work. If you want to do some coding as well just search up (Code.org)  Here is what I created.

Stella Visit

Last week a lady named Stella came to our school and talked to us about the pests of our native bush. She also talked about kiwis and how they are going extinct. Some of the different pests were cats. dogs, rats, stoats, ferrets, and more. I learnt that there was a bird that went extinct before I was even born and I had never heard about it, Its was called a Huia. What I really enjoyed was learning about different birds and why the possum came to New Zealand.  (Fun Fact: People brought them here for their fur, there fur was really soft and they used it for fashion designs.) What I could do better next time is I could ask if there were any other birds that went extinct. Read my next post to see what we created...

Kiwi D.L.O

At Paihia School a lady named Stella came to talk to us about kiwi predators. I really liked looking at the stuffed animals, I got a shiver up my spine. When we got back to class we had to make a D.L.O about what we learnt. Vaughan and I created a rap about kiwi, and what's happening to them and what we could do to help the kiwi. What I really enjoyed was writing the lyrics and practising the rap. We all so created a animation. What I could do better next time is write more lines for our rap. Here is our rap.
