Author Visit

At Paihia School a author named Katarina came to talk to us. Katarina talked about some books that she has written. She also had a big fluffy octopus that liked the Beatles. She sang some songs and Mrs Pou went up on stage and did the octopus dance, some other kids joined in. We had lots of laughs and giggles. At the end Katarina took a group of kids that really liked writing and did a workshop about writing, I wasn’t there so I don’t know what exactly they did. I really enjoyed it when we all jumped up and did the octopus dance. What I could do better next time is find out more about her to ask some questions.

P.E Running

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about statistics. We have been practicing cross country and timing ourselves by running around the field. Every day we  ran around the school 2 times and then wrote down the times on a spreadsheet and turned it into a graph. We were writing these down to use it for our data. We had to find a good graph to use, we ended up using the line graph. When we have been using line graphs in the past and usually we want the line to go up but for our running we want the line to go down. My running times are going great I've been getting faster every time we run. What I could do better is try and just outrun the pain of a stitch to get through it and get to the finish faster. I really enjoy  running and racing and telling my parents I was even faster than before. These are my running times… 6m.16s, 5m.27c, 5m.17s, 5,.15s.
See you later.

Bye.

Paper Rockets

In Te Ngahere we have been doing more work around the scientific method. To do more work around it we created paper rockets. The process is the same as the scientific method. First we thought of a question about rockets. Jack and I chose, does it matter if a rocket has more that 4 fins. We made a normal rocket first so we could compare the rockets. We tested them and gathered the data and put the data into graphs. Then when we have tested the first rocket we had to make a new rocket about the question. We added more fins, The rocket had six fins and it went further than the first rocket. I can’t wait to do more of the scientific method. Blog you later!

Maths D.L.O

In Te Ngahere we have been learning some different strategies for adding decimals, we had to create a D.L.O to show what we learnt. D.L.O stands for Digital Learning object. Some of the strategies were Number line, whole numbers and Equal addition. I really enjoyed learning theses strategies with Mr Lindsay and him showing us other ways to add decimals together. What I could do better next time is add more examples of the strategies so the reader will not get confused with only one quick  example of the strategies. Here is my maths D.L.O.
