Class Room Objects In Maori

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to say classroom items in Te Reo Maori. We practices saying them for a couple of days and we played bingo to help. We also created short animations to help us. We had to say “He aha tenei,” while holding an item in your hand, He aha tenei means what is this. Then the second person will point at the object and say “He _____ Tena”, He ____Tena means That is a______ something. We had to make 10 examples of different items and then screencastify it. What I could do better next time is practice replying and asking the question because I get mixed up with He aha Tena and He aha tenei. I really enjoyed making the animation because we all just found out how to get rid of the background and  that helped a lot. Here is a link to the website to take away the background, Link. Here is my animation, hope you like it.

Hoop Glider

In Te Ngahere we have been learning more about the scientific method by doing a new steam challenge. We had to create a hoop glider and then a modified hoop glider. We tested both of them to see what worked the best. If you know the scientific method you should know to start with a question. My groups question was, will wings make our hoop glider fly farther, We also created a method of how we would test our experiment. In the end when we tested both of our gliders we graphed the data and the glider that went the furthest was the modified glider. I really enjoyed making the rockets and testing them with my group. What I could do better next time is try adding bigger wings.

Healthy Eating

Yesterday in Te Ngahere we were learning about healthy and unhealthy eating with Gina from energize. We looked at what a healthy heart and a unhealthy heart looks like. Also we had to divide the healthy foods into one group and the unhealthy foods into another. After that we played a game, we were put into groups and we had to sort out the foods into healthy and unhealthy the fastest. I really enjoyed playing the game and learning about healthy and unhealthy foods. Did you know butter chicken was in the bad section because of it creamy base and has some sugar in it.

Science Fair

Last week on Friday Te Ngahere  finished our science fair investigations and presented them to the school. (My group did our project on what is the best rat bait.) When we were standing at our board and the judges got closer I felt really nervous. When they did get to our board  we all talked about stuff like what worked the best and why we did this. When they finished they said it was very well done witch made me feel a lot less nervous. At the end of the day we had to go to assembly and there was a part in it to give awards to the winners of the science fair.  I was so excited to hear the winners, I didn’t get in the top three but I still felt great that I tried. On Monday the whole class also got a participation award. I can’t wait for the next science fair.

Lamborghini Miura

Today in Te Ngahere we had to choose an article from a website and write a few sentences about it. I found an article about a  Lamborghini Miura found in a barn in the middle of the woods in Germany. It was quite interesting and I didn’t even know what  a Lamborghini Miura even was. I really enjoyed writing and reading about the article and I can’t wait to do another next week. Here Is my writing about it.

In an old barn in the middle of the black forest in Germany an unbelievable item was found, In the old barn sat a Lamborghini Miura. It was first purchased in 1971. It was owned for 3 years by an  advertising executive before being sold to an amateur racing driver named Hans-Peter Weber. Weber kept the car until his death in 2015 and put a fair few miles on it in that time.

Science Investigation

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to carry out a scientific investigation using the scientific process. In my group our investigation was what bait best attracts rats because in the winter there is lots of rats finding places to stay, by places I mean our homes. What I found challenging was the time we had because we were racing time trying to get everything finished. I really enjoyed it when we finished our board in time for presenting.
See you later.

NED

On Thursday at Paihia School a lady named Nicole came to our school with her friend named Ned. We were learning about mindset and how to set our minds. Nicole was like a magician and she was incredible using a yo-yo. The show was about mindset and never giving up. Neds name stands for Never give up, Encourage others and Do your best! Ned was on a journey to find his own mindset so he went on a mission around the world. (Not literally). Some of his messages were let go of I know so you can learn and grow and you can’t do it YET. I really enjoyed the show and the yo-yo tricks were amazing. We created a DLO. Here is mine.
