Awesome Movie

In Te Ngahere and Te Maunga we have been making movies. What I learnt was to collaborate with my group and share everyone's ideas and agree with an idea. We had to write scripts that tells us what's happening and who is talking. It had to be clear so if another group reads it they would understand. My group was going to do a movie about a bear hunt but ours was a bit too hard to act in our movie so we did an animation instead.  I think our movie came out great and I hope we can show it on movie night. I really enjoyed creating the movie and adding all the traps that go wrong. What I could do differently next time is try and see if I could do a bit more to our movie.

I hope you enjoy my groups movie.

Stay Fit With P.E

At Paihia School Te Maunga and Te Ngahere  have been doing athletics. We were doing this because athletics day is coming up this term. We were learning to develop more complex movement sequences and strategies in a range of situations and demonstrate consistency and control of movement in a range of situations. There were five groups and five activities High jump, long jump, sprints, shot put and discus. My favourite activity was the sprints and relays because I really enjoy running. The hardest one for me was probably shot put and getting the throw right.
I can’t wait for athletics day.

See you later.

Rugby World Cup

In Te Ngahere we have been learning about the rugby world cup. We were learning about all the teams that were playing in the world cup. We had to find all the teams names, their country and their emblem(an emblem is like their logo). A few days later we got a new challenge from the teacher. We had 14 questions we had to answer about the Japanese rugby team, the questions the teacher used were from Kieran Read ( captain  of the all blacks). I really enjoyed answering and finding out facts about rugby because I don’t watch rugby matches so it was interesting for me. Do you like playing or watching rugby? Here’s a Link to the questions.
Tell me how you go.

Bye.

What I learnt from Water Safety

In Te Ngahere Whaea Tracey, our swim safe teacher, came back to our school and talked to us about water safety. We were learning about how to get out of a rip and different ways to call for help if you are lost or need saving in the sea. Whaea Tracey showed us a few things that could help you if you’re lost in the ocean.

She showed us about 4 different types of flares. One of them was called parachute flare and you open the cap and it will fly into the sky and a parachute will open so it stays up in the air for longer. It takes about 60 minutes to float back down to the sea. There was another flare called the orange cloud but the problem with this one is that it’s only visible at day because it's hard to see at night. When you open the cap you hold it up and an orange cloud will hover over you. There's was one that you also hold in your hand and it will set a flare inside it so you need to hold it but there are two problems with this flare. It will get very hot in you hand and it is NOT waterproof.

There were also emergency beacons that will send a message to the lifeguard saying where you are. One of them was a large one, that you put on the boat and one was a smaller one which was attached to your life jacket. She also talked about the five things to remember when you’re going on a boat:
  1. Tell someone where you're going, when you will be back, how many of you are going
  2. Check the weather forecast and conditions at sea to make sure its fine.
  3. Wear a lifejacket, not just have it near you.
  4. Put your safety first
  5. Have a device/radio that's waterproof
With this new knowledge I will make sure when I’m on a boat to make sure the person I’m with knows hot to use a flare and what the lifeguard number is on the radio.(I learnt it was 16)
I hope you learnt something and remember, stay safe.
Bye.

Super Cool Steam Challenge

In Te Ngahere for the first day back at school we did a STEAM Challenge. STEAM stands for science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics. We were learning to create a freestanding object with limited materials. This STEAM challenge was ‘Who can build the tallest newspaper tower?’ We only had two pieces of newspaper, 30 centimetres of tape and we could not use scissors to cut the paper and tape. What I found hard was ripping the paper and trying not to rip it the wrong way. . Also we had to use small pieces of tape because we only had a little bit.  What I think worked well was creating a tower with a wide base for stability. What I think I did well was was talking with my group and helping them if they needed it. What I could maybe do differently next time is think of a different design, maybe a skinny design with a wide bottom. When we measured our towers my group’s tower was 1 meter and nine centimetres. The winning group was Emma and Zhynaliyah‘s with a height of  one meter and eighteen centimetres. I can’t wait for the next STEAM challenge. Have you ever done a STEAM challenge before?
Talk to you soon.

Bye.
